Capstone 2017

The 2017 Capstone Studio worked collaboratively with Louisville Metro Government’s Offices of Advanced Planning, Planning and Design Services, and Housing and Community Development to conduct detailed data analysis and research related to the ongoing Comprehensive Plan update. The students were divided into three teams and each tasked with addressing key questions for three of the Comprehensive Plan Work Groups (Community Form, Housing, and Mobility). The Community Form and Mobility student groups analyzed metrics related to creating compact communities, as defined by the STAR Community Rating system, within 9 areas identified by Move Louisville Transportation Plan as potential Transit Oriented Development nodes. The Housing student group identified gaps within existing housing related research and analyzed five key metrics across Louisville’s 21 market areas. Each group also researched relevant case studies and best practices, outlined in their final reports, and created a Story Map summarizing their data analysis and key findings. Collectively, these projects offer important insights for understanding the current potential of TOD in Louisville and develop relevant connections between Louisville’s housing and transportation needs that will help direct implementation of 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
